Garnet, the official January birthstone, is said to be named for its resemblance to the seeds of a pomegranate. But while dark red garnets are the most common, this gemstone also comes in a range of colors including blue, green, and orange. There are also varieties that change color depending on the light they're viewed in. Red garnet was traditionally favored by the clergy and nobility, and these richly-hued stones continue to adorn sublime necklaces, bracelets, ring, and earrings today.
